TANM Arts

All students in grades 6th through 9th are required to study all three of the Arts Focus areas of Dance, Music, and Visual Arts. All 10th through 12th-grade TANM students are required to choose an Arts Focus. Within the Arts Focus, students will dedicate themselves to studying a concentration within one of the school's arts areas of Dance, Music, or Visual Arts.
 
 

Honors Cords Qualifying Criteria

 

For each focus, please note the categories and the specifics in each: 


  • Credit requirement 
  • GPA requirement 
  • “Beyond the classroom”

In order to calculate your focus GPA, please use the following formula:


  • 4 pts per “A”, 3 pts per “B”, 2pts per C / the number of credits as a whole.
    • Example: 
      • On your transcript, you highlight the following 6 grades for dance:
      •  A, B, B, B, A, A
  • Your calculation would look like this:
  • 4+3 +3 +3+4+4 / 6= 3.5*
  • 3.5 is your GPA

Academic Honors

  • GPA of 3.5 in academic courses ONLY.  This means any arts, music or dance courses DO NOT count towards overall GPA.
  • This cord DOES NOT need an application.  Your GPA will be calculated by the front office and notified with all other categories.


Dance Honors

  • Credit requirement- 6 credits in Dance Focus and/or Elective 
  • GPA requirement- 3.5 grade point average in Dance Focus only. 
  • “Beyond the classroom” requirement- Students must have participated/will complete if applicable, at least 3 of the listed activities below: 
  1. Attendance at another studio such as but not limited to the Conservatory Of Flamenco Arts
  2. Participation in La Estrella/or other outside production(such as Nutcracker) 
  3. FFI workshops 
  4. Volunteering for backstage help during productions ( TANM recital included)
  5. UNM dance class
  6. Attended 4 outside performances
  7. Teach community classes

Art Honors 

  • Credit requirement: 6 credits in Art Focus and/or Elective 
  • GPA requirement- 3.5 grade point average in Art Focus (Artesanía if applicable) only. 
  • “Beyond the classroom” requirement- Students must have participated/will complete if applicable, at least 3 of the listed activities below: 

 

  • Organize and exhibit original art in the Senior Art Show **
  • Organize and exhibit art at the TANM Winterfest or other TAM events **
  • Take a Dual Credit art class 
  • Be a student aide for art classes at TANM**
  • Take community art classes or a workshop and produce a body of work
  • Apprentice with an artist and produce a piece of work  


Music Honors

  • Credit requirement: 6 credits in Music Focus and/or Elective 
  • GPA requirement- 3.5 grade point average in Music Focus only. 
  • “Beyond the classroom” requirement- Students must have participated/will complete if applicable, at least 3 of the listed activities below: 
    • Help in organization and production of musical events
    • Participate in afterschool Guitar classes at  NIF
    • Take a Dual Credit music class 
    • Be a student aide for music classes at TANM

    

Bilingual Seal.

TANM offers 3 different pathways for students to receive the bilingual seal:

    1. 4 language credits and an approved assessment (AVANT) scoring a 5 or higher on all domains
    2. 4 language credits and an approved alternative process portfolio art]
    3. 1 to be presented in front of a panel

Community Service Cord 

  • Worked as a mentor in the TANM after school program for x hours 
  • Volunteered with at least one outside organization for x hours 
  • Organized or participated in one student-led community service activity for TANM community ( campus cleanup, food drive, etc)
